Greetings Parents and Caregivers,
As we shared in August, CPCSC students in grades 3-8 are participating in the pilot of Indiana’s new ILEARN Checkpoints this school year. While we are excited about this new opportunity to measure student progress, we remember that one data point does not define a student or their knowledge and skills.
It is important to remember that this is a pilot year, and the Indiana Department of Education is still working through the details of the assessments and the reports. Our students are not expected to master standards until the end of a school year when they take the summative ILEARN assessment.
The Checkpoints take place in fall, winter, and spring. Each test has 20-25 questions and will show how your child is doing in key areas of the Indiana Academic Standards, helping guide teaching and ways to support your child's learning. The first checkpoint is complete, and teachers have already started gathering and analyzing the data. Watch this five-minute video overview for more information on this assessment program.
During the week of November 18, your student will bring home their individual student report detailing their performance. Please keep an eye out for this. The ILEARN Checkpoint report is similar to the NWEA report andis not for a grade. This is one piece of data to help guide teachers and instruction.

Sincerely,
