CPHS Senior Places in National BPA Competition

Crown Point High School senior Lily Wilson is ranked fourth in the nation for Fundamental Accounting after her return from the Business Professionals of America (BPA) National Leadership Conference held in Anaheim, California. Lily competed against 61 other students from all over the nation. She secured an invitation to the national competition after placing second at the state level.

Students participate in competitive events in categories such as accounting, payroll, web design, and financial management. The conference also provides an opportunity to attend workshops with topics such as public speaking, leadership skills, financial wellness, and setting goals.

“The conference was very exciting,” Lily said. “One of my favorite events was the pin exchange. Each state has a pin designed by a BPA student from their respective state, and at the national leadership conference, you purchase pins from your state to exchange with students from the other BPA states. It is a great networking opportunity.”

The conference was attended by an estimated six thousand delegates from across the country.  Crown Point High School BPA advisor Mary Backnak said “Lily is one of the hardest working students who has participated in the CPHS BPA club. She has been training for this honor all year and took numerous practice tests to prepare herself for the competition.”

Lily will attend Indiana University Bloomington this fall where she will major in accounting.
