CPHS Latin Club Takes State Trophy

 

The Crown Point High School Latin Club joined students from ten other schools at the 67th Annual Indiana Junior Classical League State Convention at St. Luke Catholic School in Indianapolis, Indiana or via Zoom. 

Individually, CPHS students performed well in the virtual pre-gathering events, receiving 26 individual first-place awards and bringing home 109 awards for top five placings. Additionally, three students received Individual Achievement Trophies in Academic Testing (Jacqueline Bozinovski, Aidan Gregg, and Abhi Nimmagadda), one received an Individual Achievement Trophy in Creative Arts (Abhi Nimmagadda), and two received Individual Achievement Trophies in Graphic Arts (Gracie Kenda and Katrina Valente).  There are only five trophies available in each of those categories. 

In the Certamen competition (a Jeopardy-style quiz game), the intermediate and advanced teams both advanced to the final rounds of their respective levels with the Novice team placing fourth. In the final competition, the intermediate team placed second while the advanced team finished first and received a first place trophy.

Two Crown Point students became state officers at this year’s convention. Luke Sherman was elected as the 2021-2022 IJCL first vice president. As first vice president, he will be responsible for planning next year’s state convention. Abby Godsen was appointed the 2021-2022 IJCL editor. As editor, she will be responsible for creating and publishing the state newsletter, Veritas et Scientia.

The Crown Point Latin Club was once again named overall state champion and awarded the sweepstakes trophy. In addition the team earned 1st in the Helen Wampler Spirit Award, 4th in Delegate Spirit, 2nd in the publicity contest, 1st for chapter T-shirt, 1st for local chapter publication, Tempus Canis, and 2nd for the Sharon Gibson Community Service Award.
