CPHS Celebrates Indiana Latin Week

Crown Point High School is proud to celebrate Indiana Latin Week, held statewide November 16–22, when students across Indiana honor classical studies through events, competitions, and community outreach. Crown Point’s award-winning Latin program is one of the most successful in the state and continues to earn top recognition at both IJCL State Convention and the National Junior Classical League Convention. CPHS students bring home dozens of first-place finishes, state Certamen championships, and national awards for publicity and club creativity every year. “Studying Latin isn’t just about the language or ancient Rome,” said Latin teacher and club sponsor Jeremy Walker. “It’s about rigorous thinking, creativity, leadership, and building a community that supports one another.”

This year’s Latin Week includes a full schedule of activities: a Buffalo Wild Wings fundraiser on Sunday; Karaoke Night on Monday from 2:45–5 p.m. in the LGI Center; Theatrum Tuesday presentations and improv; a Roman Banquet at Lucrezia’s on Wednesday; Ars Thursday art projects; and Fabula Friday’s Classical Mad Libs and Certamen practice. On Saturday, November 22, the club will travel to Butler University for the annual IJCL Fall Latin Day.

The CPHS Latin Club also extends its impact into the community through partnerships with the Crown Point Community Library, offering Kids Latin Club sessions for children in grades 3-8. These hands-on introductions to the language and ancient culture continue with upcoming dates on December 9, 2025, and January 15 and February 12, 2026. Each session begins at 4:30 p.m. No registration is required.
