CPCSC ranks among Indiana’s top-performing large public school districts

Crown Point Community School Corporation students are among the highest-performing students in Indiana’s largest public school districts, according to 2026 ILEARN results.

Among Indiana’s 30 traditional public school districts with at least 4,000 students in grades 3-8, CPCSC ranks fourth in mathematics, fifth in combined ELA and mathematics proficiency, and sixth in ELA.

The results also show consistent academic performance across the district. Crown Point exceeded the statewide proficiency rate in every grade-level ELA and mathematics comparison from grades 3-8, a total of 12 comparisons. In mathematics, proficiency was at least 20 percentage points above the state average at every grade level.

“We are extremely proud of our students and staff and the work they put in every day,” said Assistant Superintendent Mark Gianfermi. “Strong academic results are important, but what happens behind those numbers matters just as much. Our teachers work hard to know their students and create classrooms where all learners can grow.”

The difference between Crown Point and statewide proficiency rates was evident from elementary through middle school. In third grade, CPCSC students performed 26.8 percentage points above the state in ELA and 28.8 points above the state in mathematics. In eighth grade, students were 23.5 points above the state in ELA and 20.9 points above the state in mathematics.

Crown Point’s performance also extends beyond overall district averages. Economically disadvantaged students performed 21.5 percentage points above their statewide peers in ELA and 24.1 points above in mathematics. Students receiving special education services were 10.6 points above the state in ELA and 15.6 points above in mathematics. English learners exceeded statewide proficiency rates by 10.7 points in ELA and 17.6 points in mathematics.

When compared with other large Indiana public school districts serving similar percentages of economically disadvantaged students, Crown Point ranks first in mathematics, second in ELA and second in combined ELA and mathematics proficiency.

The 2026 ILEARN results establish a new baseline for Indiana schools following changes to the state assessment. The Indiana Department of Education has cautioned against directly comparing 2026 results with previous ILEARN years. For CPCSC, the new baseline provides a clear picture that the district ranks among Indiana’s highest-performing large public school systems.
