5. Action Items

• Approval to apply for and receive grant funds from the Indiana Department of Education High Ability Grant - This annual grant supports a continuum of services for learners identified as high ability. It supports classroom instruction, identifying students, and participation in academic competitions.

• Approval to apply for and receive grant funds from the IDOE Level Up Leadership Grant - CPHS teacher Kelly Chevalier will participate in the Level Up Leadership Cohort. Level Up Leadership participants will be equipped to share successes, lessons learned, and strategies for overcoming challenges related to educational leadership across a variety of roles.

• Textbook and Resource Adoption - Elementary schools will all have a new STEM course rotation next year for all students. SAM Labs and Project Lead the Way will be used for these courses.

• Out-of -Country Field Trip to Greece - For March 2026. Students will explore the history of communications where forefathers of rhetoric Socrates, Plato and Aristotle once lived.

• Textbook and Resource Adoption - “We Dream of Space” will be the One School, One Book choice for both middle schools. Approval for textbooks for the new CNA lab at CPHS.

• Milestone Therapy, LLC 2024-25 Contract for Physical Therapy Services - Our contract includes student evaluations and reports, direct physical therapy services, supervision of Physical Therapy Assistants, progress monitoring, attendance at IEP meetings, and Medicaid billing.

• Policy Additions and Revisions - Second Reading and Approval - Changes in policy are required due to changes in state and federal law. Policies include internal controls, idling of school buses, electronic participation by board members in meetings, and visitors to school buildings.

• 2024-2025 School Meal Prices - there are no changes in the cost for breakfast or lunch.

• Food Service Procurement Plan Approval for 2024-2025 - this annual plan outlines the procedures for Food Services according to the requirements of USDA’s Child Nutrition Program and School Breakfast Program (SBP).

• District Wide Asphalt Paving Projects - part of the ongoing capital projects and paid via bonds. Winning bid was approximately $200,000 less than budgeted.

 

6. Information/Recognition Items

• Director of Grants/Assessments - Mr. Hardman gave a brief overview of the assessments given in spring each year. 

• Director of Elementary Education - Thank you to the 84 elementary teachers and 14 Exceptional Education teachers who have been part of the new curriculum mapping process for Math and ELA. 

• Director of Secondary Education - Secondary buildings have been very busy with a variety of activities: ISMAA awards, CPHS career fair, Taft’s “Finding Nemo” musical, and the CPHS military graduate ceremony. 

• Director of Exceptional Education - Thank you to the many individuals that made Unified Game Day possible. We had 375 students participate in the day as well as a number of community volunteers.

• Chief Human Resources Officer - We have started hiring season and are off to a great start filling the positions we have open for next year. Thank you to Diana Green for her work to organize and prepare the annual Teacher/Employee/Administrator of the Year process.

• Chief Financial Officer - Thank you to the many individuals who have been transitioning to our new financial system. Thanks for your professionalism and flexibility as we learn this together.

• Director of Communications - An overview of the Communications team reach was provided.

• Superintendent of Schools - Thank you to Diana Green for her work on our Teacher/Employee/Admin of the year process. We are lucky to live in a district with so many programs and opportunities for our students and we are proud to offer these for our students. Thanks to the many volunteers who give their time for all of our end of year activities.

• Mr. Vassar asked about a meeting to discuss board policies.

• Mr. Smith shared his thoughts on student achievement and culture amongst staff and administration.

 

8. Board Statements of Appreciation and Recognition

• Ms. Bazin - Thank you to the hundreds of teachers/staff who contribute to our district every day. Thank you to the cabinet members who presented information at the board retreat last week. 

• Mr. Vassar - Recognized the ceremony for our students who are going into the military.
