My Education: I received my undergraduate degree from Ball State University in Special Education with a focus on Deaf Education and Mild Interventions. While I was student teaching I decided that I wanted to focus more on students with more intense needs. I continued at Ball State University where I received my graduate degree in special education with a focus in intense interventions. I have since then taken many trainings to stay up to date on best practices and techniques.
My Experience: My first three years of teaching I taught a high school class with students who had a hearing loss and an emotional disability at Indiana School for the Deaf. I continued at Indiana School for the Deaf for 5 more years where I taught both middle school and high school, but in an intense intervention multiple disability classroom. I came across an incredible opportunity at the end of the 2015-2016 year to come and teach at Colonel John Wheeler Middle School in Crown Point, IN. I just ended my second year at Colonel John Wheeler. This year was an even better experience then my first year. I was honored to be nominated as the Teacher of the Year this year, which was quite an honor.
Personal Interests: I love finding local walking and hiking trails to walk my dogs. I volunteer during many events and different activities at my church. I also volunteer at Lakeshore Paws in Valparaiso. During the warmer months I enjoy golfing. I also enjoy going to different outdoor festivals and local farmer's markets.
