• Welcome

    Dear Parents,

This week your child will complete one of the most important milestones in his/her life- the first day of school!  I understand that you and your child may have met this day with excitement or apprehension (or a little of both) and I hope that this letter will help you to know what to expect in kindergarten this year.

I would like to take this time to introduce myself.  My name is Mrs. Wendy Royal.  This will be my 8th year teaching kindergarten.  Prior to teaching kindergarten,  I worked for the school corporation as an ESL teacher.  I am very excited to now be teaching kindergarten.  I graduated from Purdue University with a degree in elementary education, specializing in early childhood education.  I love teaching and I will bring my enthusiasm for learning to my students.  I will work very hard to foster academic, intellectual, social, and emotional development and also to enhance interests, attitudes, and motor skills.

I have learned that you get out of children what you expect.  I have high expectations.  I expect them to follow directions, behave appropriately, and always do their best.  Kindergarten is a time for learning by doing.  It is a time of exploring the world, asking questions, finding answers, making mistakes, learning and growing.  One of my goals this year is to give your child the most positive and successful introduction to school.  In addition, I want to prepare your child for what lies ahead academically.  I want your child to learn as much as possible.  I want your child to be happy about coming to school.  I want your child to always be treated fairly, and I want your child to be safe at school.  I will work my hardest to ensure that these goals are accomplished.

I believe that good a parent-teacher relationship is necessary for maximum school success.  Throughout the year I will communicate with you through notes, telephone calls, newsletters, and parent-teacher conferences.  I encourage you to contact me if you have questions or concerns at any time.  You can call me at school (663-2287), send me a note or e-mail me at wroyal@cps.k12.in.us.

    Thank you for your time,

    Wendy Royal
