My name is Mrs.Nally and I am happy to teach 6th  and 7th Grade Math at Colonel John Wheeler Middle School.  This is my 14th year teaching and 13th year as a part of the John Wheeler team.  I graduated in 2005 from Indiana University – Northwest with a B.S. in Special Education and Elementary Education.

My first teaching position was as a Kindergarten teacher at MacArthur Elementary right here in Crown Point.  After my year at MacArthur, I took a position at the newly opened Colonel John Wheeler Middle School and have been deeply involved in the Math and Language Art sections ever since.  While there are plenty of days I may miss my little kindergartners there is no doubt Middle School is where I belong.

The thing I loved the most - and still love the most about teaching - is that you can connect with an individual or a group, and see that individual or group exceed their limits.” - Mike Kryzewski

There is no greater satisfaction for me as a teacher than to see a student accomplish something he, or she, never thought possible; but don’t get me wrong, 6thgrade is a challenging time for all students.  Between the physical changes, changes in class structure, and a new school, it can be overwhelming for many incoming students; easing this transition is the part of my job I love.  Though there may be many new challenges, this is also the stage of a child’s life where there are a multitude of opportunities for me as a teacher,to have a positive impact on a child and ensure they are successful not only the year they spend with me, but that they build skills they will use throughout the rest of his, or her, life.  Most students I will have an opportunity to work with for a couple hours of the day, so I realize that it’s important to maintain an open line of communication with parents to ensure that everyone is working together to help the children succeed.  Every year I look forward to meeting new parents that are eager to work with me and watch their children exceed their limits.

I try to spend as much time as possible when not teaching with my husband and eight year old daughter, Lilly.  She brings so much joy to my life and I love watching my “mini-me”grow every day.  I am also a huge Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan; two teams that have brought me more frustration than joy for the majority of my life.  In addition to suffering through my professional teams, I love to exercise and am slowly learning to be half the cook my Mother is.
